lectrosonics-s1
Lectrosonics S1 Supercardioid Shotgun Mic for Production Sound

The Lectrosonics S1 is built for production sound professionals working in film, scripted television, reality, documentary, and news gathering. Its RF bias true condenser capsule provides intrinsic resistance to humidity and environmental factors that would compromise conventional condenser designs, making it a reliable choice for location sound mixers who cannot afford microphone failure during a take. The supercardioid polar pattern with full radial line tube symmetry means the mic performs consistently regardless of how it is rotated on the boom, eliminating the vertical orientation dependency that plagues many competing shotgun designs.

At 2.7 oz and 8.4 inches in length, the S1 is engineered for extended boom pole operation without fatiguing the operator. The 0.75-inch diameter body fits a wide range of standard suspensions and shock mounts, giving production teams flexibility in their rigging setups. Drawing less than 2 mA from 48V phantom power, the S1 integrates cleanly into battery-powered mobile rigs and field recorders without straining power budgets. The broadly flat frequency response with a subtle upper-frequency lift prioritizes dialogue intelligibility over coloration, which is exactly what narrative and documentary production demands.

Assembled at the Lectrosonics facility in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, the S1 is finished in a hard-wearing blue anodized coating over its aircraft aluminum alloy shell. For production sound teams evaluating shotgun microphones in the same category, the S1 differentiates itself through the combination of RF bias moisture immunity, radially symmetrical off-axis rejection, and a sub-3-ounce weight that no comparable professional shotgun matches without sacrificing electronic performance.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0871/7382/4696/files/207123_Lectrosonics-S1-Supercardioid-Shotgun-Mic-for-Production-Sound_ALT01sqr.jpg?v=1791492981
