An ellipsoidal light (sometimes called an ellipsoidal reflector spotlight—ERS for short—ellipse, or profile spotlight) is a type of fixture commonly used for stage lighting. It functions by collecting light into its ellipsoidal reflector and then redirects the light through a barrel and lens to be dispersed into a specific space.
Great for theaters, TV, film, and other professional production or live performance applications, ellipsoidals are also ideal for accent lighting displays that require professional polish, such as corporate buildings, museums, galleries, and studios.
Originally available in Tungsten Halogen, modern ellipsoidal lights are also available in LED or HID.
