The PCC160 Boundary Layer Microphone from AKG is a surface-mounted, half-supercardioid microphone. Featuring PCC® (Phase Coherent Cardioid®) technology, this mic’s diaphragms are so small that any phase cancellations are above the audible range. The result is a wide, smooth frequency response (50 Hz to 18 kHz) completely free of phase interference—making the PCC160 an ideal stage floor microphone for professional applications including lecterns, conference tables, and news desks.

Minimize unwanted room noise with the PCC160’s subminiature supercardioid mic capsule. The supercardioid polar pattern improves gain-before-feedback, while simultaneously reducing the pickup of noise from the rear of the mic. Designed to be used on a relatively large boundary surface, the PCC160 is transformed into a “half-supercardioid” polar pattern by surface mounting, increasing directivity by 3 dB. By placing the capsule on a boundary, direct and reflected sounds arrive at the microphone diaphragm in-phase, enhancing its sensitivity 6 dB and preventing phase cancellations. Additionally, the PCC160’s capsule is compact enough to ensure phase coherency up to the highest frequency that a human ear can register, giving you coveted clarity and reach.

Powerful and practical, the PCC160 can handle up to 120 dB SPL without distorting. It also includes RFI suppression, along with boasting low self-noise, high sensitivity to override mixer noise, and 150 ohms of balanced output impedance.

The PCC160 is constructed of professional-quality components to equip your performance for success. There’s no need for an in-line preamplifier box; thanks to its self-contained electronics, you can power the PCC160 with phantom power directly from a console or other remote power source (12-48 volts). Alternatively, you can power it via a battery supply unit (sold separately).

Enjoy long-term, high-quality performances with the heavy-duty yet compact PCC160. This mic features a built-in “bass tilt” switch so you can customize the low-end response to your specific needs. Its low profile and black finish allow it to blend seamlessly into any environment, so the focus is on your art. A side-mounted connector allows you to efficiently mike tight spots, while screw holes in the base make it easy to permanently mount in an installed setup.

About Boundary Microphones at Sound Productions

Optimize your audio with Sound Productions’ assortment of boundary microphones! A boundary microphone (sometimes called a “pressure zone microphone”) is comprised of one or more capsules built into a microphone that mounts on a flat surface such as a table, desk, wall, or ceiling. The low-profile design of most boundary mics makes them easy to place in a range of environments without taking up too much space, while wired and wireless options of different models give you the flexibility to place or reposition the mic as space allows.

A great choice for situations where you have more than one sound source you want to capture, boundary microphones are ideal for professional audio setups in businesses, such as board rooms, conference rooms, and office spaces. For instance, a boundary mic makes communication easier in group meetings where multiple people are collaborating. Boundary microphones work well for any multi-use environment where versatile miking is key.
