Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which Allen & Heath mixer is the best fit for our school?

Depends on what you’re mixing and where. The SQ-6 is the sweet spot for chapel services, theater productions, band and choir concerts, and houses of worship on campus. It offers 48 input channels, 24+1 faders, and a 7 inch touchscreen at a price point that fits most education budgets. The Avantis steps you up to flagship dLive class processing in a 64 channel console with dual 15.6 inch Full HD touchscreens. It is great for performing arts centers, large auditoriums, and broadcast or AV programs that want to teach students on a professional level desk. The AHM-64 is not a mixer at all. It is a 64x64 audio matrix processor for fixed installs, like distributing audio across an entire campus, multipurpose buildings, gymnasiums, or athletic facilities.

  • Can we record performances and lectures directly to the mixer?

Yes. The SQ-6 has integrated SQ-Drive for direct USB recording. It supports 16 channels at 96 kHz, 32 channels at 48 kHz, or a stereo capture straight to a thumb drive with no laptop, drivers, or extra setup required. It also doubles as a 32x32 USB audio interface if you want to record into a DAW for music production classes. The Avantis supports multitrack recording via Dante, Waves SoundGrid, MADI, or gigaACE cards, making it ideal for broadcast programs or performing arts centers that need to capture full productions.

  • Can the AHM-64 really cover an entire campus?

Yes. The AHM-64 scales up to 64 zones, 96 IP remote controllers, and 268 routable system inputs and outputs. That is enough for everything from a single boardroom to a multi building campus install. Pair it with Allen & Heath’s Everything I/O expanders over SLink, with support for up to 8 remote expanders, or add the Dante 96 kHz option card for full network integration. It also integrates cleanly with Crestron, AMX, and Extron control systems, which is usually a requirement for AV programs.

  • Will these integrate with our existing campus AV system?

Absolutely. The AHM-64 was built for installation environments. It supports TCP/IP control, GPIO, and ships with drivers for Crestron, AMX, and Extron. The SQ-6 and Avantis both have SLink for plug and play expansion plus optional Dante cards for audio networking across buildings. If your facility already runs Dante, all three fit right in.

  • Are these mixers good for teaching students live sound?

Very. Both the SQ-6 and Avantis run on Allen & Heath’s 96 kHz XCVI FPGA engine with sub millisecond latency, under 0.7 ms, so students learn on the same audio architecture used on world tours and major broadcasts. The SQ-6 is a great teaching console because the workflow is simple enough for beginners but deep enough to grow with them. Features include drag and drop channel strips, color coding, custom naming, and integrated automatic mic mixing for panel discussions or assemblies. Avantis gives advanced students hands on experience with dLive class processing, dual touchscreens, and full Dante, MADI, and Waves networking they will encounter in the real world.

  • How do we get pricing or a quote for our school or district?

Pricing varies based on configuration, expansion needs, and whether you’re equipping a single room or an entire campus, so we do not list it on the page. Our Certified Account Managers, with more than 16 industry certifications between them, will put together a personalized quote, talk through your install, and help with bid documentation if you’re going through a purchase order or RFP process.
