The AJA UDC-4K is a professional Mini-Converter built for broadcast engineers, live production teams, systems integrators, and DIT workflows that demand reliable format conversion without compromising image quality. It handles up, down, and cross-conversion across 4K, UHD, 2K, and HD rasters up to 4Kp60, and doubles as a frame synchronizer and a 1x4 12G-SDI distribution amplifier, consolidating several rack or kit devices into one compact unit. Its dual-stack I/O, combining 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0 on both input and output sides, makes it equally useful for SDI-to-HDMI bridging on display-heavy broadcast sets, integrating HDMI sources into SDI production infrastructure, or feeding confidence monitors without breaking signal flow.
Where comparable Mini-Converters handle a single conversion task, the UDC-4K addresses format alignment, timing synchronization, and signal distribution simultaneously. Its genlock input accepts external blackburst or tri-level sync, and it can also lock to the SDI or HDMI input directly, making it practical for untimed or mixed-format source environments common in live events and multi-camera productions. AJA's polyphase scaling algorithm and motion-adaptive deinterlacer preserve picture integrity across conversion paths, and the built-in utility frame rate converter handles 59.94-to-50/60 and 50/60-to-59.94 transitions that frequently arise when mixing international formats. HDR-aware metadata handling with VPID and HDMI Infoframe pass-through or override keeps HDR workflows intact from camera to delivery.
Configuration requires no external software. The front-panel LCD and four backlit navigation buttons allow complete standalone setup, while AJA's free Mini-Config application for Windows and macOS enables deeper control and status monitoring over USB-C.
