AKG’s D112 made a name for itself as one of the best bass drum microphones, known for high SPL capability, punchy EQ, and indestructible construction. The D112 MKII maintains the sonic strengths of the original while offering improvements such as a new integrated flexible mount.
In designing the D112 MKII, AKG engineers took the features most important to bass drum miking and exceeded expectations so you can enjoy excellent sound quality. One example of this is with the sound pressure levels. The D112 MKII can handle over 160 dB SPL without distortion, a higher threshold than close miking the bass drum typically pushes to.
The large diaphragm in the D112 MKII has an incredibly low resonance frequency complimenting the bass drum frequency range, delivering a solid and powerful response below 100 Hz. Narrow-band presence boost at 4 kHz compliments this authoritative low end while ensuring that the bass punches through dense mixes and loud stage volumes.
You’ll capture only the bass drum sounds you want to capture with the D112 MKII’s integrated hum-compensation coil. This works to minimize mic noise and vibrations, a problem other bass drum microphones often have to contend with.
