The Alfatron Electronics ALF-USB3-EXT is a USB 3.0 over CAT extender designed for AV integrators, IT professionals, and production teams who need reliable SuperSpeed USB connectivity beyond the standard cable run limit. It transmits USB 3.0 signals over CAT6, CAT6A, or CAT7 infrastructure up to 80 meters, making it a practical solution for installed AV environments, security and monitoring setups, industrial control applications, and professional production workflows where source and peripheral cannot be co-located.
The transmitter unit supports USB 3.0 SuperSpeed and is compatible with USB 3.2 Gen1x1 and USB 3.1 Gen1 standards, offering three USB-A 3.0 inputs and one Type-C 3.0 input for connecting multiple peripherals simultaneously. The receiver supports USB 3.0 SuperSpeed and USB 2.0 High-Speed, with backward compatibility to USB 1.1 Full-Speed, and provides a single Type-C 3.0 output. Power over Cable is supported, requiring only the receiver to be powered, which simplifies deployment at the transmitter end. Hot-plug detection and automatic device identification reduce setup time in live environments where peripherals are swapped frequently.
Where passive repeater cables or simple USB hubs fall short on distance or protection, the ALF-USB3-EXT adds value through built-in ESD protection rated to IEC61000-4-2, surge protection, and lightning protection, all in an iron housing. This level of signal integrity and electrical protection is particularly relevant in installed AV and broadcast environments where signal chain reliability is non-negotiable.
