The Blackmagic Design Streaming Encoder HD is built for broadcast engineers, live production teams, and AV integrators who need a reliable, computer-free path from an SDI source to a streaming platform. At one-third rack width, it connects directly to a production switcher or camera chain and handles encoding, platform authentication, and network management in a single box. SRT and RTMP protocol support covers YouTube, X, Facebook, and Blackmagic Cloud, while built-in presets stored in editable XML let technically minded operators fine-tune settings or add custom destinations without rebuilding a workflow from scratch.

The 12G-SDI input accepts HD and Ultra HD signals up to 2160p60, and the built-in downconverter handles format conversion internally so the encoder always delivers a clean HD stream regardless of the upstream signal format. USB-C webcam output extends the encoder into remote workflows, and HDMI provides status monitoring on any display at the rack or at front-of-house. Network flexibility is a core differentiator: Ethernet handles fixed infrastructure installs, while 4G and 5G mobile data via a connected smartphone covers touring, outdoor broadcast, and venues where hardwired network access is unreliable.

Configuration is handled through the Blackmagic Streaming Utility software, which connects via USB or remotely over Ethernet and runs on Mac and Windows. For productions that also need a return path, the companion Blackmagic Streaming Decoder converts incoming H.264 or H.265 streams back to SDI and passes tally, talkback, and camera control signals upstream, closing the loop for broadcast-grade remote production.
