The Blackmagic Design Cintel Audio and KeyCode Reader is an add-on component for the Cintel film scanner, purpose-built for post-production facilities and archivists digitizing 16mm and 35mm film. It reads KeyCode frame identification data from both film formats directly into DaVinci Resolve, eliminating the manual logging that typically slows down archive transfers and conform workflows.

Where the Cintel scanner alone captures a silent image stream, this reader adds real-time optical audio extraction, giving operators synchronized sound during playback without a separate pass or external audio sync process. For facilities handling news archive, feature negative, or documentary transfers, the ability to hear audio in real time while scanning reduces QC time and accelerates overall throughput.

Integrating directly with DaVinci Resolve, the reader passes both KeyCode and audio data into the same grading and conform environment already in use, keeping the workflow inside a single application. Compared to third-party audio sync hardware or software workarounds, this native integration removes conversion steps and preserves frame-accurate alignment throughout the digitizing process.
