The Blackmagic Design Fairlight PCIe Audio Accelerator is engineered for post-production engineers, sound editors, and re-recording mixers working inside DaVinci Resolve. By offloading audio processing to dedicated hardware, it removes the CPU bottleneck that limits large-format mixing sessions, giving facilities a path to track counts and bus structures that rival purpose-built DAW hardware. The single half-length PCIe x4 card slots into standard workstation chassis and connects to the Fairlight Audio Interface via a proprietary multi-pin connector, enabling synchronization to house reference through word clock, AES, MADI, HD Tri-sync, or reference video inputs.
For film and television post facilities, the accelerator delivers up to 2000 mono tracks at 48kHz, with cascading FlexBus bus management that supports up to 512 mono bus elements organized in formats from mono to 26.0 surround. Record channels scale from 128 at 48kHz to 32 at 192kHz, and additional record channels are unlocked when Core Audio and the Fairlight Accelerator operate together. On-board channel facilities include six-band EQ, expander/gate, compressor, limiter, elastic wave time warping, sample rate conversion, and up to six Resolve, VST, or AU plugins per channel or bus. A single coax MADI port via 75-ohm BNC provides up to 64 inputs and outputs, and SATA connectors support the Fairlight Audio MADI Upgrade for further expansion.
Sampling rates of 44.1, 48, 96, and 192kHz with minimum 32-bit floating point processing make this card viable across broadcast, theatrical, and streaming delivery chains. Monitoring supports up to four simultaneous sources with up to 16 speaker sets, and an optional B-Chain processor accommodates cinematic setups with up to 64 speakers. Compatible with Mac 10.15 Catalina or later on Intel CPU systems and Windows 10 64-bit, the card draws only 14W, keeping thermal load minimal in dense workstation builds.
