Built for follow spot operators, master electricians, and lighting designers working in theaters, touring productions, and venues with elevated spot positions. It solves a recurring problem: changing color when there is no room to work, such as a catwalk above the audience. The operator handles color from one unit instead of juggling loose gel frames in the dark.
The design comes from working theater. Master Electrician Chris Lewton developed the original solution while he and lighting designer Allen Lee Hughes were working on a musical at Arena Stage in Washington D.C., and City Theatrical then built it from his prototype. It has since been used on many shows, so it reflects real crew experience rather than a generic accessory.
Compared with improvised gel holders, this is purpose-built for the job by a manufacturer focused on the needs of theatrical lighting crews. It suits resident theaters, rental inventories, and road shows that want a repeatable setup for follow spot positions. Specify it when speed and reliability during a live cue matter more than a cheaper workaround.
