Followspot operators rarely get generous working space. When a unit is parked on a catwalk above the audience, changing color mid-show takes time and attention that the cue list does not allow. This City Theatrical Boomerang puts the change in the operator's hands and keeps the followspot working at pace through a musical, a play, or a touring production.
The design came from the stage, not a catalog. It was inspired by Allen Lee Hughes and Master Electrician Chris Lewton while working on a musical at Arena Stage in Washington D.C. Lewton created a prototype, and City Theatrical then built it. It has since been used on many shows.
For theaters and rental departments running Altman followspots, it is a purpose-built answer to gel handling in a cramped position. Lighting designers, master electricians, and production managers specifying followspot equipment for theater and live production will find it a direct fix for a problem that comes with elevated spot positions. Crews get proper hardware for the job instead of tape and workarounds during tech and performance.
