Top hats solve two problems at the fixture: stray light landing where it should not, and a bright lens that distracts the audience or shows up on camera. This City Theatrical accessory fits the S4 PAR round frame and gives lighting designers, production electricians, and venue technicians a direct fix at the lens.
In theatrical, concert, and camera-facing productions, imperfect optics or poorly maintained lenses can push light into house seating or onto scenery. A top hat helps rein that in and shields the source from sightlines, so viewers focus on the stage instead of the lamp. Because it mounts on the fixture itself, the correction travels with the unit from rig to rig.
Compared with improvised shielding, a purpose-made top hat stays matched to the fixture and can be ordered with a white finish or custom treatment when a show calls for it. Choose accessory length with care. Longer accessories lose light in 50° lens tubes, and no accessory is recommended for 70° or 90° tubes.
