Adding a top hat extends the front of the fixture and gives you a quick, repeatable way to trim that output at focus time.

Audience members and cameras notice a bright lens, and a top hat limits how much of the source they can see, which helps in theatre, live events, and any camera-facing production. As a purpose-built City Theatrical part, it is made for entertainment lighting rather than improvised from tape or card stock.

Check your lens tube beam angle before ordering. City Theatrical advises against using any accessory in 70° or 90° lens tubes because extreme light loss will occur, and does not recommend 5" long accessories in 50° lens tubes because light is lost. Matching accessory length to beam angle keeps output where you need it.
