City Theatrical 2575 S4 Mini Donut For Gobo Sharpening

Lighting designers and production electricians reach for a donut when a gobo projection looks soft and needs more definition. Seated in the color frame slot, it reduces the aperture, much like squinting sharpens what the eye sees. The result is a tighter, cleaner image on the wall, floor, or cyclorama, which matters for logos, patterns, and textures that have to read clearly from the house. It is a low-cost way to rescue a look without changing the gobo or refocusing the fixture.

The tradeoff is some loss of brightness. For many designs that is an easy call, since a crisp template at slightly lower output usually looks better than a bright but muddy one. Plan for it when setting levels, and you can keep the sharpness without surprises at focus time.

This version is sized for the S4 Mini, which makes it a practical addition to a touring kit, a theatre inventory, or a corporate event package where small fixtures carry gobos. City Theatrical offers donuts across a wide range of fixture sizes, so a rental house or venue can standardize on one source for every ellipsoidal in the rack.
