City Theatrical 2580 D-60 Top Hat For Controlling Light Spill

Top hats are a first-line fix when a fixture throws light where it should not go. Lighting designers, electricians, and venue technicians use them on theatrical and production fixtures to keep spill off scenery, trim, and house seating, and to hide the lamp from sightlines that would otherwise catch the bright source head-on.

That matters in theatre, corporate staging, concerts, and camera-facing productions, where a visible hot spot distracts a viewer or flares a lens. A top hat also gives crews a practical way to manage weak optics or lenses that are past their best without swapping fixtures mid-run, and it adds only a small accessory to the rig rather than a new unit.

Check lens tube angle before ordering. City Theatrical advises against using any accessory in 70° or 90° lens tubes because of extreme light loss, and against five-inch long accessories in 50° tubes. Fixture families referenced by the maker include Source Four, Strand SL, Shakespeare, and Pacific in the 19-50° range, so confirm fit against your own fixtures and lens tubes.
