City Theatrical 2590 Standard Top Hat For Light Spill Control

Top hats are a basic tool for lighting designers, electricians, and production teams who need cleaner stage pictures. When a fixture's optics are imperfect or a lens has picked up wear, errant output can land in the house or wash across scenery that was never meant to be lit. A top hat mounted at the front of the fixture trims that unwanted output at the source, which saves time compared with rigging flags or re-hanging units during focus.

The same accessory also solves a visibility problem. Looking straight into a hot lamp source is distracting for audiences and can cause flare or hot spots on camera, so limiting the viewing angle to the lens improves the look of theatre, concert, broadcast, and corporate productions. City Theatrical makes this top hat for entertainment lighting rigs, so it suits the way production crews actually hang and focus fixtures.

Check your lens tube angle before ordering. The manufacturer does not recommend long accessories in 50 degree lens tubes, or any accessory in 70 or 90 degree lens tubes, because light output drops noticeably.
