City Theatrical 2618 ColorSource Spot Jr. Donut For Gobo Sharpening

Gobo work depends on edge definition. When a projected template looks soft on a wall, cyc, or floor, a donut is the standard correction for lighting designers, programmers, and production electricians. This City Theatrical donut is sized for the ColorSource Spot Jr. and sits in the color frame slot, where it narrows the light path and tightens the projected image.

The principle mirrors squinting to see better. Reducing the aperture sharpens the output, and the price is some lost brightness. Most designers accept that tradeoff for logos, textures, and architectural patterns in theatre, corporate events, touring productions, and houses of worship, where a crisp template reads better than a brighter, softer one.

A fixture-specific donut is quicker to deploy than improvised masking and keeps focus sessions moving. Stock one for each gobo-driven fixture on the plot, and pair it with other donut sizes when the rig mixes ellipsoidal fixture types. Matching the accessory to the fixture also keeps load-in and focus calls predictable for the crew.
