The Countryman I2 Violin and Viola Microphone Kit is designed for orchestral musicians, broadcast productions, and live performance engineers who need a discreet, high-performance condenser microphone that disappears on camera while delivering professional-grade audio. The I2 is engineered from the ground up for smooth frequency response, low noise, and precise polar patterns with deep nulls and natural on- and off-axis response, making it equally effective for close miking backstage and distance miking in broadcast or recording environments.
What separates the I2 from generic clip-on condensers is Countryman's instrument-specific Violin and Viola Mount, which positions securely behind the bridge and gives the engineer meaningful control over microphone placement. That positioning freedom allows the pattern to be directed at the natural acoustic center of the instrument rather than accepting a compromise position forced by generic mounts. The mounts incorporate viscoelastic damping materials to isolate the capsule from transmitted vibration, bow noise, and mechanical shocks that would otherwise color the signal and require additional processing to correct.
The kit is available with a TA4F connector for compatibility with select Shure wireless bodypack transmitters, or in an XLR3 Male hardwired version for direct console and wired system connections. Both versions share the same capsule, mount system, and 2mm Duramax Aramid-Reinforced Cable construction, making them appropriate for professional touring rigs, televised performances, and installed house-of-worship systems where reliability and minimal visual profile are non-negotiable.
