The Lectrosonics BIAST is a bias-tee adapter designed for wireless system engineers and RF coordinators who need to power a remote antenna amplifier or filter/amplifier over a coaxial cable run without introducing DC voltage into the receiver. It is the purpose-built solution for installations where the UFM230 or UFM50 is mounted at the antenna position and a power source is only available at the receiver rack.
In live touring, broadcast, and installed audio environments, long coaxial runs between the antenna and the receiver regularly exceed the practical range of passive antenna distribution. The BIAST addresses this by sitting at the receiver end of the cable, accepting 9 to 16 VDC from an external supply through a locking 2.1 mm power jack, and delivering that power to the antenna-side BNC via an internal feed inductor. A blocking capacitor prevents any DC from reaching the receiver input, keeping the RF signal path clean. The design is straightforward to integrate into existing rack or distribution setups and requires no modification to the coaxial cable itself.
Protection features distinguish the BIAST from generic bias-tee solutions. An internal blocking diode prevents damage if reverse voltage is applied, and a self-resetting polyfuse shuts down the unit in the event of a short on the antenna side. Removing power for a few seconds resets the fuse, eliminating the need for field service or replacement components. Compatible power supplies include the Lectrosonics CH20, DCR12/A8U, and DCR12/A4U, all providing the required 12 VDC regulated output.
