The Lowell VCS8-DW is an 8-ohm impedance-matching stereo attenuator designed for residential multi-room audio installations where multiple speaker pairs connect to a single power amplifier or receiver. By matching speaker impedance at each zone, the control prevents the cumulative load from dropping below safe operating levels, protecting amplifiers rated up to 50W per channel from thermal and electrical damage.
Built for in-wall installation, the unit terminates via Phoenix-style connectors and accepts up to 14-gauge wire, giving integrators a clean and reliable termination at each volume station. The rotary dial steps attenuation from 0 to maximum in 3dB increments, providing smooth and predictable level adjustment without the abrupt jumps found in simpler resistive controls. The included white 1-gang decorator wall plate fits a standard E.O. box with a minimum depth of 2.5 inches, keeping the finish consistent with other decorator-style devices in a home install.
This control is strictly for passive 8-ohm speaker line applications in home and residential systems. It is not rated for 25V, 70V, or 100V distributed audio systems, and it must not be used with amplifiers exceeding 50W per channel. For residential integrators specifying zone-level control on low-power whole-home audio systems, the VCS8-DW delivers a code-friendly, aesthetically clean solution.
