The Light Source Inc. Purlin Clamp is engineered for AV integrators, riggers, and production crews who need a reliable, code-conscious attachment point on structural steel. It slides onto bar joists, purlins, and I-beams up to 1 inch thick, providing a fixed anchor for fixtures, speakers, drape motors, and other production loads in permanent install and touring temporary-hang scenarios.
The extruded aircraft-grade aluminum body resists corrosion and keeps weight low without sacrificing structural integrity. Micro-grooves machined into the clamping surface bite into the beam flange to prevent rotation and lateral creep under dynamic loading — a meaningful advantage over smooth-face alternatives when vibration from subwoofers or motor pull cycles is a factor.
In late 2024, The Light Source Inc. revised the PC line load ratings to increase safety margins beyond OSHA minimums, adding the -HD variant for heavier applications. The standard PCB3/8 carries a 210 lb. working load limit with 3/8"-16 TPI hardware, making it the right choice for lighting fixtures, small speaker enclosures, and ancillary rigging points where a 1/2" clamp would be oversized. Supplied hardware covers immediate deployment: a square head set screw locks the clamp to the member and a grade 5 hex head bolt provides the load connection point.
