The NETGEAR GSM4248P-100NAS is a 48-port managed switch from the M4250 AV Line, designed specifically for audio/video professionals deploying AV over IP systems in live production, installed AV, and enterprise media environments. Unlike general-purpose managed switches that require extensive manual configuration, the M4250 ships pre-configured with color-coded port profiles for leading 1Gbps AV codecs including Dante, Q-SYS, AES67, NDI, NVX, and SVSI. AVB support is optionally available via a separately sold license. This makes it a purpose-fit tool for system integrators and AV engineers who need a reliable network core without building codec-specific IGMP and multicast rules from scratch.
With 40 PoE+ RJ45 ports and 8 SFP expansion slots, the switch accommodates both endpoint power delivery and fiber uplinks in a single 1U chassis. The 480W PoE budget supports high-density endpoint deployments including PTZ cameras, network audio devices, and AV control touchpanels. Rear-facing port options and recessed rack mounting ensure clean cable management inside AV racks. NETGEAR IGMP Plus automates multicast routing when multiple M4250 units or M4300/M4500 switches are linked together, reducing setup time on multi-switch systems significantly.
The M4250 offers both a dedicated AV web GUI for rapid profile-based configuration and a full IT management stack including CLI, SNMP, sFlow, RSPAN, and the NMS300 single-pane-of-glass platform. Layer 3 routing with static, RIP, and PIM support, plus DHCP server and PTPv2, round out the feature set for networks that require precise clock synchronization.
